CharSys d20
| |||||||||||
Like its predecessor, CharSys Classic (for AD&D 2nd Edition), CharSys d20 brings easy and powerful d20 character creation to the Mac.
How easy is it? Well, to begin with, when you create a character, you will see all the alignments, races, classes, deities (if you have that window opened), and ability scores on the screen at the same time. Each of these is in a separate floating window so you can move them anywhere you wish.
You can re-roll as often as you wish. You may also move your ability scores around. Sometimes, however, you won't be able to select a race, class, alignment, or deity. If you move your mouse cursor over that item, a tip will appear indicating why you can't choose it. You can also get more information about a race, class, alignment, or deity by click on the question mark next to it.
Once you have the character you want, type in your name (not your character's) and click on Save. You will then be prompted for your character's name and you are on your way to adventuring!
CharSys d20 is non-linear. That means that once you have created your initial character (i.e. roll scores, chosen race, class, alignment, and, if necessary, deity), you aren't forced to continue on through other steps. How you want to finish your character is up to you. However, if you aren't sure how to proceed, a helpful guide will appear leading you along the way.
Of course, you can maintain your character on disk. Print up your character sheet, go adventuring, and then return to update your character. No more lost character sheets!
Or, better yet, use CharSys d20!
If you have a laptop, forget the paper, pencil, and dice! CharSys d20 will allow you to edit one or more characters on the fly! Select Play from the Tools menu and CharSys d20 will present your character in a character sheet format. However, it is loaded with buttons and edit fields allowing you to make changes as you play the game! Update your hit points during combat, add to your wealth as you get gold, add to your inventory as you amass treasure, and select the spells you want to memorize and then uncheck them when they are cast.
During Play Mode you will also see a dice roller. During combat, just click on the Attack button next to the weapon you wish to use and the dice will be rolled taking into account all of your bonuses to-hit. Then, your damage result will be shown taking into account all of your damage bonuses. Need to roll for a skill check? No problem. Just click on the button next to the skill and the dice will be rolled, adding any ability score bonuses.
The CharSys d20 package is something that no serious d20 gamer should be without. Download it today!
